Residential Fence FAQs - What You Need to Know

At DanDale Fence, we’ve installed all kinds of fences at homes throughout Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. While working with our residential customers, our team hears many of the same questions about the installation process and how we approach each job.

Our FAQ will help you learn more about how residential fencing works and why working with DanDale Fence makes the experience seamless because we specialize in stress-free installation from start to finish.

What permits do I need for a residential fence?

Navigating local regulations, building codes, and HOA requirements can make your head spin. At DanDale Fence, our team knows the ins and outs of the permitting process for your area, and we handle all the paperwork for you. Also, don’t worry about site surveys, fees, or inspections – we’ve got you covered.

What’s the best type of fencing for my yard?

In most cases, the customers we work with have a good idea of the type of fencing they want for their home. Whether it’s vinyl, wood, aluminum, or chain link, we can do the job. However, homeowners need to consider more than the fencing material. Is the yard sloped or flat? Is there any landscaping to work around? Is there a dog, swimming pool, kids? Is it for privacy? When DanDale visits your home for a free estimate, we can discuss your options to develop a solution that meets your aesthetic and practical needs.

Can I use more than one type of fencing?

Absolutely. In some situations, using more than one type of fencing makes sense for homeowners. For example, you can install wood fencing at the front of a home for curb appeal and if there’s a huge backyard, using chain link fencing for that area would save on installation costs and overall maintenance.

Will a new fence add value to my home?

The answer, in most cases, is new fencing definitely adds value. High-quality fencing increases curb appeal and home security and provides privacy, which translates into value. It’s also essential to match the style of the home and try to blend in with any fencing in neighboring homes. Another important element is the fence needs to be installed professionally. Mistakes by DIY installers are easy to spot and lead to lots of issues down the road.

How long does it take to install my fence?

DanDale’s experienced team efficiently installs most fences in one day. Even though we work quickly, we’re committed to quality assurance, and we guarantee a smooth process from consultation to completion. DanDale stands behind our jobs and guarantees a fence that secures your property and adds to its value and beauty.

How much will my new fencing cost?

The price of a new fence installation depends on many factors, and at DanDale Fence, our team will collaborate with you to provide a comprehensive estimate. We guarantee stable pricing, and our price will never change post-contract.

 Fencing costs are based on:

  •  Overall fencing length and height. Pricing is calculated per linear foot.

  • Type of fencing material.

  • The slope (if grading is required, it adds to the cost).

  • Style and design.

  • Distance between posts.

What about utilities in my yard?

At DanDale Fence, we’ve dug thousands of fence posts, and before our expert installers put a shovel in the ground, we contact MISS Utility to come and mark your underground lines. However, if you have private lines such as septic, irrigation, or low-voltage outdoor lighting, you’ll need to have them marked before installation.

Which type of fencing is easiest to maintain?

For low maintenance, the best choice is vinyl fencing. It’s extremely durable and usually only needs a quick spray with a garden hose to clean it. Vinyl is also resistant to staining, rust, termites, or rotting. Chain link is also a good choice because it requires minimal maintenance and is easy to install.

Should my fencing touch the ground?

You don’t want the dog to get out or the local wildlife passing through your yard, but there does needs to be a small gap between the bottom of your fencing and the ground. This keeps it from trapping soil and water which will rot the bottom of the fence and helps prevent termites.

Can my new fence be financed?

DanDale offers our customers flexible payment options. Contact us for more information and our office staff can discuss the details with you. One great way to save a little money on your fence is to refer a friend. Our referral fee for DanDale Fence customers is $200!
